First Steps

Welcome to CodigoDelSur! Here you will see a tiny guide about what to do on your first steps here at CDS. Also to know little bit more about the CodigoDelSur’s team please check this link.

Inner communication

• Mail: On your first day you will be provided with an email account. This account should have the next format:

  [first character of your name][ last name]@codigodelsur.com.

  You must use this mail every time you create any other service account like Github,, Bitbucket, Slack, Skype, etc.

• Slack: You will be invited to the slack team https://codigodelsur.slack.com/. There you can join different channels like #developers, #ios_devs, #android_devs, #web_devs, etc

• Skype: Please create a Skype account with your codigodelsur mail account.

Github

You will need to create a Github account with your Codigodelsur email. The account name should have this format:

[first character of your name][last name]cds

Also please enable two-factor authentication! Notify the creation of the Github account so can be invited to join the CodigoDelSur’s Github organization.

LastPass

What is Lastpass?

LastPass is a password management service that stores passwords in private accounts. So, any time you need to store or share a password please use lastpass, don’t use text files, mails, slack, etc.

How can I start using Lastpass?

• You will be receive an account activation email. While your are activating the account you will create you master password, please enter a password with at least 12 character that contains upper and lower cases and a digit.

• As a rule at CodigoDelSur, all Lastpass account must include a two-factor authentication method. We recommend using Google Authenticator. Once you configure your 2fa method you are ready to start using Lastpass.

Tip: In order to access easily to your password vault while you are surfing the web you can download the LastPass web extensions.

Your computer

First you need to check that the software that you are using is updated (IDEs, xCode, OS, etc). Then check if your network configuration is OK. You should have a static IP and you configuration should look something like this:

IP: 192.168.10.xxx
Gateway: 192.168.10.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0

DNSs: 192.168.10.1, 206.99.44.254, 8.8.8.8

Club de lectura técnica

What is the “Club de lectura técnica”? Once in a couple of week, some developers join together to discuss a previously read tech book.
